Cyrano de Bergerac

Savinien de Cyrano de Bergerac (1619–1655) was a French writer and libertin thinker whose prose fantasies L’Autre Monde, ou les États et Empires de la Lune and du Soleil use imagined lunar and solar voyages to satirize religion, authority, and received cosmology. His plays, including La Mort d’Agrippine and Le Pédant joué, along with his philosophical letters, reflect skeptical free thought and anticipate later science fiction and Enlightenment critique.
